Growing up in the sixties and early seventies, you drive downtown and you see painted on the walls the sign, "POST NO BILL." You don't see those signs anymore.  And so with this website, fellow batch members, we invite you to contribute your bills, your thoughts and your photographs. Let this be a chronicle of the best works and of the delicate artistic expressions of our members.  Let this photographed volume tell the stories of all those willing to work side by side seeking to inform and enlighten thru their lens.

A Call to Help Rescue Leyte

UST Batch80 starts Sagip L80 fund drive.

St. Bernard, Southern Leyte.  Landslide from surrounding mountain slopes triggered by heavy rains buried hundreds of houses, a school, 90% of the village, leaving hundreds dead, thousands missing - almost in a blink of an eye.  This is the place, the tragedy, the casualty.

Let us learn by paradox.  Rising form this valley of despair; let it be a valley of vision.  Let hope rise knowing that though dashed to the ground, we can push and strive for the heights.

Nothing can prepare us from this misery and trauma of people who have lost everything in an instant, but we can dig deep into our Christian faith:  our bedrock as a class, as a people, as a nation.  We will not grouse and add to the despair.  Instead, we will be as light shining brightest in total darkness.  Let us help rescue Leyte.

We call on all our batchmates, their friends and relatives to donate to the Batch 80 Leyte Fund Drive dubbed Sagip L80.  Donations in cash can be sent via:

-- bank deposit to USTHS Batch 80 Alumni Associaiton Checking account # 0381-028361-001 Security Bank Branch 101

-- mail check  pay to USTHS Batch 80 Alumni Associaiton (Sagip L80) to Leah Militar-Castillo, our Batch treasurer, #14 Rose St., Lourdes Subdivision, Mambugan, Sumulong highway, Antipolo Rizal 1870

--  money transfer via Western Union to Leah Militar-Castillo.  Please email or text Leah the confirmation number.

-- For US and north America residents, you can use Western Union or send/mail check to Jojo Sayson (840 Revere St., Bourbonnais, IL 60914 USA) Tel (1) 815-933-4291 and (1)815-936-1992.  Jojo will be in the Philippines in March.

PLEASE FILL UP THE SAGIP L80 DATABASE/RECORD AT OUR YAHOO GROUP SITE AFTER REMITTING THE MONEY.  Click this link - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/usths80/database

Donations will be coursed thru ABS-CBN Foundation (c/o Ronnie Cabanes) or thru GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Munting Hiling : Batchmates extend Christmas cheers to poor West Crame kids

"Munting hiling" or little wish.  To be more precise: the little Christmas wishes of the children of Barangay West Crame, we, the USTHS80, granted through this Christmas gift-bag giving project.  The first little step to a worthy, ambitious but realizable program the Special Projects Committee wished to engage in.  This was made possible through the hardworking team of Ibe Arevalo, and, with the encouraging support of batchmates here and abroad.  Untested yet and fumbling, the hardy bunch forged its way through its sheer desire to bring joy to these little tots this holiday.  (Click here for the photo story)

On December 10, 2005, seven came to represent the batch and distribute goodwill to this indigent community.  The number belies the profound impact the gesture had on this people.  Armed with donations extended by batch members, the group was received with much warmth and almost reverential awe.  Thanksgiving profuse in their lips, expressed in their handshakes.  It was humbling.

And what about us, lucky seven?  Well, we had mighty fun!  We frolicked with the children, sang with them, joined in their games, danced the latest craze with them, served and ate with them.  How we wish we could share snapshots of images: of Leo unrolling yellow ribbons and awkwardly cutting them into strips while Jeff and Lou tried vainly tying them into pretty bows, of Ibe and her Peps hoisting a sack of rice to repackage into 2-kilo bags, of my Joaquin gamely wrapping presents with his Tita Lou, of Margie's pert and lovely daughters helping out in the distribution, and of Reggie Ablaza's remark to Ibe after the show that perhaps it was God who brought us all together.

Give, to live!  Give and you shall receive.  The lesson we took home that day was that - there is no one who has so little he has nothing to give; and there is no one who has so much that he can no longer receive.  We are grateful for this privilege. - Yna Valenzuela-Torres

Batch80 Celebrates

Christmas Jubilee Party!

It was the best of times! A time of quickening…..

The last Batch 1980  Jubilee event for 2005 happened on  December 3, 2005, Saturday at the Madrigal Grill, Quezon City. Over 70 batchmates arrived to cap our Silver Jubilee year with singing, dancing, jamming, talking, fun and booze.

It was to be an "ordinary" Christmas party for an extraordinary batch. Jubilee year near over, a year spent in celebratory mood while half-consciously planning the next occasion with anticipation and regularity. There were despedidas, bienvenidas, birthdays, a summer outing, and a spate of videokes; that not much else was expected from its Christmas party. Bigger attendance perhaps, and a dash of this and that.

To everyone’s pleasant surprise, the yuletide cheer, and goodwill built throughout the year made batchmates come bearing good tidings. After all, ours was the most attended grand reunion, and the bonding forged from subsequent get-togethers proved to be deeper, more honest than it seemed. This most important ingredient, plus, a live band consisting of male batch members, a mini-concert from the ladies, a dance showcase from the jubilee dancers, good hosting, a well-crafted AVP, ABS-CBN partial coverage to honor a member, the recognition of one of its most self-effacing members, generous gestures from batch mates here and abroad, and its first general assembly headed by its president, combined to make this occasion truly befitting a Christmas party of the most extraordinary batch.

More stories to come.  Click here for pictures.
